Heart of Worship: The Supremacy of God

As I was reading Hebrews Chapter 1, I got so excited with how the text was unraveling the truths about God, the Son. The Bible can be difficult to understand, but when God gives you the grace to understand His message, it is the greatest privilege and blessing you can ever receive. It is so refreshing and fulfilling.
As I was reading the chapter, God opened my eyes to see the supremacy of our Lord Jesus Christ. The depth of His greatness was just astonishing. Before you read further, pause and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the truths of who He really is. Ask Him to open your eyes to see the hidden secrets of heaven.
1. Jesus the Creator
(Hebrews 1:2)
Jesus existed before the universe; He was the one through whom the universe was made. He was appointed heir of all things—that means every creature, the complexity of the world, the busyness of the world or rather of your life—is His own. The things we have personalized are His. We are mere stewards of what truly belongs to Him.
Jesus Christ was made the rightful inheritor of all that exists. As the creator and perfecter of all things, He holds the highest position of sovereignty, reflecting His divine nature and role in God's redemptive plan for the world.
Reflective Prompt:What does it mean to you that everything in your life ultimately belongs to Jesus? How might this reshape how you manage your time, resources, or priorities?
2. Radiance and Representation of God
(Hebrews 1:3; Colossians 1:15–19)
The Son is the radiance of God's Glory. Paul in Colossians 1:15–19 says He is the image of the invisible God. Radiance is a type of glow emanating from the sun (light), meaning Jesus is the glowing light emanating from God the Father—the exact resemblance of Him.
The Bible says in John 1:3–5, “He is the light and through Him there is no darkness. The light shines through darkness and darkness has not overcome it.” No one has overcome God. He is unshakeable, unconquerable—darkness cannot contain Him.
And because He is the light, the devil couldn’t contain Him. He tested Jesus during the time the devil thought He was most vulnerable—after He had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. To show the foolishness of the devil, he offered Jesus the universe and everything in it—yet Jesus is the creator and perfecter of the universe.
Still looking at Hebrews 1:3, the Bible says in John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Jesus is the exact representation of His being, and this verse solidifies Jesus' exact words in John 14:9: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?”
Colossians 1:19 says, “For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him.”
Earthly fathers and sons share the same DNA, but they are not the same person. Identical twins might look alike in the eyes of human beings, but they are uniquely crafted and different from each other. But Jesus is the exact resemblance of God the Father. It’s like copying and pasting a text with no additions or subtractions—having a perfect duplicate. So Jesus and the Father are one.
Reflective Question:What does it mean to you that Jesus radiates the very glory of God? How does that deepen your reverence and awe when you come before Him in worship?
3. Superior to Angels
(Hebrews 1:4–14)
Jesus reduced Himself, made lower than angels, and became flesh. In His humbleness, He went further to die on the cross for the purification of our sins. He dwelled among us and had all the qualities of a man. Hebrews 2:14 says, “He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil.”
And after His death on the cross, He sat at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So He became much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs (Hebrews 1:4).
I was baffled when I continued reading the text and discovered that God the Father referred to Jesus as God. Verses 8–12 show His superiority and His everlasting reign. All this highlights Jesus’ divine nature, His role in creation, and His unchanging eternal existence.
Reflective Prompt:How might your worship deepen knowing that Jesus is not just a savior—but sovereign over all?
4. The Way to the Father
(John 14:6)
With how superior and supreme our Lord Jesus is, we were given the privilege to commune with Him directly—with no limitations or boundaries.
Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus is our only way to salvation and the only way we can go through to serve God. This is the supremacy of God the Son.
Reflection:How does knowing Jesus is the exact image of God change how you view your relationship with Him? Are you approaching Him with boldness, intimacy, and surrender?
As we behold the supremacy of Christ, let us bow our hearts in awe, surrender our lives fully, and worship Him not just in words, but in spirit and in truth.
Reflection Prompts to Ponder:
What areas of your life need to come under the Lordship of Jesus today?
How does knowing Jesus is the exact image of God change how you view your relationship with Him?
Prayer:Lord Jesus, You are the radiance of God’s glory and the exact imprint of His nature. You are supreme over all creation and yet You humbled Yourself for my salvation. I bow in awe before You. Teach me to worship You in truth, in reverence, and in full surrender. Rule and reign in my heart. Amen.
